40-year-old point guard Steve Nash has played just 65 games over the last two seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers, and it looks like his nagging back injuries may relegate the two-time league MVP to a role player this season. Nash, who signed a 3-year, $27-million contract in 2012, played sparingly in two preseason games this month, but Lakers coach Byron Scott revealed Wednesday that Nash aggravated his back moving bags.
Via the Los Angeles Times:
“Steve, today, kind of hurt his back. He had a little bit of a setback, just kind of carrying some bags or something. He [felt] a twinge in his back.”
Scott acknowledged Tuesday that he’s thinking about moving Nash to a bench role, and giving the starting job to Jeremy Lin (who is recovering from an ankle injury) or Ronnie Price.
Via NBA.com:
“That is something that I’m definitely thinking about. Is it in our best interest to start Jeremy or Ronnie, or do we just kind of wait day-by-day and game-by-game? I don’t know yet.
